When Cameron Steely and Preston Osborn elected to move up from the 2WD class of the Rally America National Championship to the all-wheel drive Super Production class, they knew they needed a robust piece of machinery. That’s why O.D.D. Racing has been working hard on building a brand new ride for its championship contending drivers—a Ford Fiesta, just like the team’s former 2WD entry.

But until that car is finished, Steely and Osborn have been campaigning a car that has seen plenty of solid results: the 2007 Subaru STi last used by LaRoza Racing. In their first two races with the new ride, Steely and Osborn have finished second in class (third overall) at Rally in the 100 Acre Wood, and first in class (second overall) at the Southern Ohio Forest Rally. Get to know a little bit about the history of the car from Steely himself:

When did you pick up this car and where did you get it?

This year—we bought it from Steve LaRoza.

Any nicknames for the car?

Steve’s daughter and co-driver Alison LaRoza named the car Sally when they were racing the car. So we have stuck with that name.

Why was this the right car for you to use in Rally America?

It’s a great starter car for us to learn in until we finish our other all-wheel drive car.

Aside from safety regulations, what have you done to improve its performance?

Reiger suspension, a hydraulic handbrake, and a tune on race gas. We haven’t done a lot to the car.

When it’s not rallying, where’s the home base for this car.

Greeley, Colorado, with O.D.D. Racing at their shop.

When was your first event with this car and how did you do?

This year’s Rally in the 100 Acre Wood. We were second in the SP class and third overall.

Has anybody else rallied this car over the years?

Yes: Garry Gill, Piotr Fetela and Steve LaRoza.
