It is very unusual for a new event, in any sport, to become the largest in the country in its first year of existence but that’s just what the Southern Ohio Forest Rally accomplished in 2017. Now, the organizers of the rally are working diligently to make sure 2018 surpasses all of the successes of the inaugural event.

2017 welcomed 70 rally teams from around the world to Southern Ohio for the 2-day event which took part in Zaleski State Forest, Scioto Trail State Forest and at the Ross County Fairgrounds. Competitors battled narrow, fast, technical forest roads along with the heat throughout the weekend. They put on a tremendous show for rally fans and the local community.  Thousands of people flooded the Chillicothe and McArthur areas to witness the first Southern Ohio Forest Rally, booking nearly every hotel in the area and packing restaurants every evening. The event was very well received by all of the competitors and fans alike, which has given event organizers the confidence to build on last year’s accomplishments.

For 2018 the event will feature a few changes. The Parc Expose on Friday May 18th in McArthur will move from last year’s location of West High Street by the McArthur Fire Department to Downtown McArthur on US RT 50.  The Parc Expose will run from approximately 12pm to 2pm and will allow fans to meet the competitors, view their cars, pick up t-shirts and other apparel. Fans can also be a part of the opening ceremonies for the event. Competitors will then depart from US RT 50 in McArthur to the first stage of the rally which will take place in Zaleski State Forest. Stage 1 features a new spectator spot, where fans can watch rally cars departing flat out!

Another change for the 2018 Southern Ohio Forest Rally will be the addition of a special stage in Tar Hollow State Forest on Saturday May 19. The addition of Tar Hollow adds some diversity to the rally and increased footprint of the event. This provides fans more chances to view the action!  Additional spectator spots will be available in 2018 at various locations. Keep an eye on for more information!
The organizers of the Southern Ohio Forest Rally would like to invite everyone to the event May 18th and 19th, we are confident you will not be disappointed! We would also like to thank the Ohio Division of Forestry, the Village of McArthur and the City of Chillicothe for their ongoing support of SOFR along with all our amazing sponsors.
