Rally America Celebrates 2018 National, Regional Champions
Rally America is proud to congratulate its National and Regional Champions after the completion of a successful and exciting 2018 season. Colorado’s Dave and Mike Brown, winners of January’s Sno*Drift National Rally and six-time podium finishers over the course of the year, have claimed the overall Rally America National Championship. The Browns also locked up the Open Light class championship with their most recent result, a second place finish at Lake Superior Performance Rally.
"The Overall National Championship win is beyond my wildest dreams!" said Dave Brown. "The new guys aren't supposed to win. A home built naturally aspirated car isn't supposed to beat the pro built turbo cars. I couldn't help but cry when I found out it was over and that we'd won. I was so focused and committed and determined this season that all I thought about was rally all the time. All I did in my free time was work on the car and coordinate the next race. The sudden release of emotion realizing that it was over and that we accomplished the impossible while reflecting on all the obstacles that I overcame was overwhelming.”
"2018 Rally America National Champions—it’s still hard to believe," added Mike Brown. "We set out to win the Open Light championship this year, but who knew a naturally-aspirated Open Light car could win it all? It was a long season and we spent many days and nights on the road towing the rally car to races chasing our goal. Our family and friends helped (a ton) and were with us the entire season. It was so cool meeting other teams throughout the year and competing against them. Finally, to Dave, my brother, aka Racer Dave, it’s time to PARTY!!"
Many of the sport’s top teams were represented atop their respective class championships in 2018. PMR Motorsports driver Tim Rooney and O.D.D. Racing co-driver Preston Osborn split the Super Production class titles, while River City Rally driver Michael Hooper and JRD Rallysport co-driver Martin Brady were the 2-Wheel Drive class champions. The Maxxis/HPD Rally Team extended its streak of six consecutive B-spec driver’s titles with driver Chris Sladek, while Matthew Hoffman claimed the co-driver’s title.
The 2018 Rally America Central Region Championship also rewarded a number of top teams with class championships. Toasted Racing driver Zach Whitebread and Barribeau Motorsports co-driver Scott Rhudy were the overall title winners; Whitebread and co-driver Cameron Carr also took the 2018 Super Production title.
American rally mainstays Henry and Cynthia Krolikowski successfully defended their Open class titles from last year, while Blind Deer Rallysport’s Jimmy Pelizzari and Kate Stevens (Open Light), Tower City Race Team’s Al Dantes Jr. and Brandon Snyder (Group 5), Weird Beard Rally’s Mike Erickson and Jacob Good (Group 2), and Maxxis/HPD Rally Team’s Chris Sladek and John Sharps (B-spec) took the remaining class championships.
