The Sparco Rally xD is finalizing its prep for the upcoming Oregon Trail Rally (OTR) on May 4, 5, and 6. After two events and finishing 2nd in class at both Sno*drift and the 100AW rallies, the team continues to strive for that top spot. The Oregon Trail Rally is the third event in the Rally America Championship series and the Sparco Rally xD team currently sits in second in the overall two wheel drive championship class.

The OTR holds a very special place for the Scion Rally program as it was the inaugural rally where the xD first ever competed and earned a podium finish. Definitely a lot more than anyone expected, but there’s more. Last year, when the team returned to Oregon for the second time, the OTR would mark the Sparco Rally xD’s first ever 1st place win in class.

“Its weird how somethings happen and as we come back to Oregon again, we really look forward to a great event, being competitive and racing hard,” says team manager Philip Chase.

The OTR is the longest event of the series with three days of racing. The first day is a super special stage at the Portland International Raceway. The second and third day take the teams out to the trails and forest roads, up and around scenic Mount Hood.

To mark this return to the OTR, the team will release a new race helmet collaboration between Sparco, Rally xD and state of the art customizer Hydro Graphics Inc. A teaser image of the new helmets that the driver and co-driver will be using are attached. More images will be released on the team site as the event nears.

The new Sparco Rally xD helmets were designed and finished by Hydro Graphics Inc. (HGI) in Newberg, OR. For those of you who are not familiar with HGI, did you happen to see the Rose Bowl this year? The Oregon Ducks were wearing a LiquidMetal™ helmet that completely changed the face of football. Those helmets were finished by HGI. Now the Rally xD drivers will be wearing helmets using the same HydroSkin® technology that created those crazy Rose Bowl helmets. Visit http://www.hydrographicsinc.com for more info on HGI.
