South West Regional Rally

Desert Storm is the second round of the Rally America Southwest Region, featuring Saturday coefficient 3 and Sunday coefficient 2 rallies on the unpredictable desert floor of western Arizona.

Saturday and Sunday the teams will traverse the roads used back in the 1860’s onto the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Grounds in western Arizona.

Saturday’s event is a full days worth of competition with over 84 stage miles and 13 stages winding between the Saguaro Cactus and Ocotillo plants.  After returning to the headquarters city of Blythe, California, where competitors will get ready for the Lucas Oil Four lap Super special at the Lucas I-10 Speedway’s tarmac, and a special rally course in the middle of the track specially designed for the Desert Storm event.

Sunday will find competitors back on the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Grounds to finally wind down the weekend’s competition. The awards ceremony is back at the Palo Verde College Lucas Oil Automotive facility.

Desert Storm stages are generally graded and fast, punctuated by low lying rough washes that can be both sandy and hard at the same time. The transition from fast to “gotcha” will challenge all entries, regardless of experience.

The weather can vary from sunny and hot, to mild and cool all in the same day with the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the mineral enriched mountains.
