Driver // Mark Williams
After a decade racing in British and European rallycross, Mark made his debut in rallyracing in 2007 with the ex-Subaru Canada/Tom McGeer championship winning car.
Mark made his motorsport debut, like most Englishmen, in a British Leyland Mini. Racing on grass fields and rallycross tracks required good preparation and quick wits as four to eight Mini’s don’t often fit through narrow corners side by side.
After a lot of success, his five year Mini career was ended by a huge accident at Lydden Hill. Moving to the US for work at the same time Mark returned to rallycross in a Citroen AX but quickly graduated to a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO V that he still describes as his best car. A cold wet and sleeting day at Lydden Hill in 2004 brought the best result of 2nd overall for the Lancer.
Seeking newer technology Mark sold the Lancer back to Belgium and invested in a Ford Escort WRC. Unfortunately a few gremlins and increasingly busy work schedule meant Mark only raced the car twice before deciding that the declining dollar would finally stop his trans-atlantic racing.
After a successful rallycross in Canada - in yes, another Mini! - Mark made contact with Can-Jam re buying the ‘retired’ Subaru.
A debut 4th place at the Black Bear Rally was followed by another 4th place at Galway Cavendish. These two strong results were unfortunately followed by DNF’s on Rallye Ste Agathe and the Rally of Tall Pines.
In 2008, Mark has finished 17th O/A at the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood; 11th O/A at STPR; 3rd O/A at Black Bear; 8th O/A at New England Forest Rally; 2nd O/A at Rally West Virginia and 2nd O/A at Galway Cavendish.
Mark is co-driven by the experienced Jeff “Jeffy” Secor.
How did you get started in Rally or Rallycross?
I first raced Mini’s in rallycross in 1995 and came 3rd in the Championship before moving onto a Citroen AX, Mitsubishi Lancer EVO V and Ford Escort WRC.
What are your future goals?
Our aim this year is to learn how to drive front wheel drive after 10 years and more importantly to have fun!
